www.4women.gov - This site, sponsored by
the Department of Health and Social Services, is the federal government's
source for women's' health information, providing resources to women on
topics such as diabetes, lung disease, heart disease, strokes and pregnancy.
It also provides links to numerous sites concentrating on women's health. www.americanheart.org - The American Heart Association has a helpful section entitled “Diseases and Conditions” that provides sound, factual information. It also has a “Healthy Lifestyle” section to help you make positive changes in preventing and controlling heart disease.
www.cspinet.org - The Center for Science in the Public Interest is a consumer advocacy organization which conducts research and programs in health, especially nutrition. This site provides consumers with current information about their health and well being.
www.hopkinsafter50.com - The
Hopkins After 50 site has “resource centers” on many different health
issues. The Heart Disease Resource Center provides up-to-date information
from renowned researchers at Johns Hopkins University. www.medlineplus.com - The National Institute of Health and the National Library of Medicine provide multiple resources on health-related topics, disease, and medications. You can find articles and medical organizations, review recent health news, or search medical dictionaries and encyclopedias.
www.mendedhearts.org - Mended Hearts site is used as a support group for heart disease patients and their families. This site provides articles on heart-healthy living, as well as membership details and is dedicated to educating members on preventing and coping with heart disease.
www.naspe.org - The North American Society of Pacing Electrophysiology site provides accurate, clear, and understandable information about heart rhythm problems. It is designed to educate patients and the public in both English and Spanish!
www.nhlbi.org - The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute site is
provided by the government. The first topic located on the upper left hand
side of the home page is “Health Information". This will take you the
Health Information page where you can browse to different sections for
"Patients and the General Public" (includes a section on “Heart and Vascular
Diseases”). Other areas of interest on this website include descriptions of
studies that need patients as well as updates on current research findings. www.nih.gov - The National Institute of Health site is a government site and is very large. It contains an A-Z index of health sources, hotlines, and drug information which can be used to search the site alphabetically or by body system. The drug information section provides information on over 9,000 different medications. This site is available in both English and Spanish.
www.vdf.com - The Vascular Disease Foundation site covers topics such as peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, carotid disease, and venous disease. This site also contains a vascular disease information library and a frequently asked question section.
www.webmd.com - The Web MD site is for the "sophisticated surfer". The home page lists a directory from which you can choose the topic “Heart Disease”. This will take you to a number of articles, self-administered quizzes (answers provided immediately), and the option of sharing your email address if you would like to receive direct-access links to articles on heart disease.
www.wellnessletter.com - The Wellness Letter site provides a newsletter published by the University of California-Berkeley. This newsletter covers topics on nutrition, fitness and self care which feature a “Topic of the Month”, recipe books and other highlights. The Wellness Letter translates leading edge research into practical advise for daily healthy living for all of us.
www.womenamericanheart.org - This is an American Heart Association website focusing on cardiovascular disease in women. It provides facts and information on overall cardiac health, risk reduction, exercise, diet, and much more, all specific to the female gender.
